Were you on the left or the right?

I was on the right, and had gone down in the second surge from the left (where the 2 lads were) I was unconscious until I was being pulled out (nose smashed, covered in blood…but before I went under I thought “I’m gonna die”, and I felt really serene about it) I remember seeing the 3 rows of people who had been in front of me stacked on top of each other, and just looking at them…I couldn’t do anything for them because I was only just coming to myself. A lad in a tan, fringed leather jacket got me to the side, then dived back in to help more people.

Bless that fkin guy, because without him, I’m sure that I and others would have been added to that body count that day ❤️

That was my first festival experience at 15. I didn’t understand the severity of it until I was in hospital the next day in my hometown and a nurse told me. Even then…and now, TBH…it seems surreal. Tonight is the first time I’ve googled it.

I’ve told this story a few times over the years, but nobody ever believes it lol they never heard about it! One time, a friend said “ah fuck! That’s in a book about GnR!”, but that was only 3 or 4 sentences. For some reason, it’s just been wiped out…

I was there. Rock City took the P*** that night. Selling drinks for as long as they could when they knew he wasn’t coming on. I bailed out quickly as it was clear it was going to go up big time. Police were already waiting outside, a line of cars, went wading in with truncheons and people being dragged out pouring with blood.
Lucky nobody was killed.

Hi ian. My name is ian i was born I. Prescot just outside of Liverpool, I M aged fourty six, I have been to a few gigs in liverpool I have see duran, duran, the human league, and gary numan fantastic to see live it the carling academy o2iverpool, lSt band I went to see was the specials with the late Terry hall. I agree with you on your blog bands you wish you went to back in the day. I wish i went to see ultravox or Japan David Sylvia. A bricklayer I know who lives near wete I live is well into his eighties music. He went to see Gary numan in London 1980 but was pissed off that he went all the way to London. But gary numan came to liverpool empire, my mate joey also seen ultravox 1981 liverpool empire as well as Japan David Sylvia bNd at liverpool royal court theatre as well as liverpool empire. And i am also single, no children I am a belief that love will eventually happen when men least expect it. I will have to keep checking out your blog. Ian
