I pretty much stopped buying vinyl records and started buying Compact Discs (CDs) in 1989 shortly after getting my brand new Pioneer ‘stacking system’ which came with a multi-play CD player. I was impressed with the sound quality at the time and set about building my new CD collection which sat alongside my beloved records and tapes. CDs would soon takeover though and my old records and cassettes would eventually be relegated to the attic during one particular house move and they would never make an appearance in any lounge again….. at least until this website was born in lockdown in 2020!
My switch to CDs largely coincided with a big change in my musical tastes in the 1990s and 2000s when I started opening my ears to all genres of music, not just the rock and metal I had grown up with. This change is quite evident when looking through my eclectic CD collection. That said, I never lost my love of the heavy stuff and I continued to buy (often duplicate) some amazing rock and metal albums throughout this period of my life.
These days the only CD player I own is in my car so I may be tempted to transfer some of these lovely peices of plastic to my ‘glove box’ for some long journeys and to see how the sound compares to my usual Apple Music / Bluetooth connection from my phone.
Got some bangers here. What should I listen to from this little lot…?
