Glasto Goodness Part 9 – 2008

I went to Glastonbury for 20 years between 1997 and 2017, amazingly missing out on tickets just once (2005 looked shit anyway lol!)

I’ve managed to piece together every programme, mini guide, ticket and mud-spattered wristband that’s been hidden away in boxes up in my attic for years (see them all here!) Sadly my addled old brain is incapable of piecing together enough memories to write a review for each year so here’s some great footage and photos I have found from Glastonbury 2008. This year the sun returned, the John Peel stage doubled in size, the new Shangri-La area (the ‘naughty corner’) replaced ‘Lost Vagueness’ and had 12 new stages, oh… and some bloke called J Zed or something like that headlined the Pyramid (I won’t be writing about that here!)

Some video highlights:

Jack White and the superb Raconteurs, Saturday afternoon on the Pyramid Stage – Glastonbury 2008
This was the year The Last Shadow Puppets played a secret set on the Park Stage – one year after Alex Turner and the Arctic Monkeys had headlined the Pyramid Stage. As if this wasn’t enough Jack White briefly joined them after his set with the Raconteurs…(NME review here)
It was also the year that The Verve reformed and headlined the Pyramid on Sunday night. I’d always wanted to see them at Glasto after seeing them their performance on TV in 1995. That footage inspired me to go to my first Glastonbury in 1997
While Jay-Z was headlining the Pyramid we were enjoying the amazing Massive Attack over on the Other Stage – their first performance at Glasto since 1997.
Spine-tingling set from Crowded House on a sunny Saturday afternoon
Always a festival highlight, the excellent Alison Goldfrapp came back with a more ‘earthy’ feel in 2008.
Neon Neon featuring Super Furry Animal Gruff Rhys and American singer, songwriter and actor Har Mar Superstar. This performance is VERY Glastonbury (Bonkers!)
MGMT played 2 sets at Glastonbury 2008 – we saw them on the Park Stage on Saturday night but there’s no decent video footage of that so here they are in the John Peel tent on the Friday
Friday headliners on the Pyramid – Kings of Leon
No apologies for posting this! Neil Diamond was absolutely brilliant and this (his new single at the time) a highlight from his legends set on the Sunday afternoon – Glastonbury 2008

Some Photo Memories:

Think this ‘Libertine’ may have been a little worse for wear over at the Park Stage on Saturday night (it definitely wasn’t Pete Doherty!)
Stumbled across this party going on in one of the tents – think they were called Carnival Collective
Some raw video footage I shot of Seasick Steve on the Pyramid Stage. Sorry for the quality – think I may have taken it on my old digital camera as I didn’t have a smart phone at this time
