I went to Glastonbury for 20 years between 1997 and 2017, amazingly missing out on tickets just once (the rivers of mud festival in 2005!)
I’ve managed to piece together every programme, mini guide, ticket and mud-spattered wristband that’s been hidden away in boxes up in my attic for years (see them all here!) Sadly my addled old brain is incapable of piecing together enough memories to write a review for each year so here’s some great footage and photos I have found from Glastonbury 2011 – the year U2 finally headlined the Pyramid Stage on a rainy but very atmospheric Friday night. We opted for the Chemical Brothers over Coldplay on the Saturday night (great decision – one of my favourite Glasto performances of all time!) and we went for the brilliant Queens of the Stone age over Beyonce on the Sunday.
2011 saw the introduction of the ‘Spirit of 71’ stage and it was here I saw Nik Turner’s Space Ritual – the closest I’d ever get to seeing Glasto legends Hawkwind at the festival (one of my all time favourite bands).
This was also the year Radiohead played a secret set on The Park stage and we were there to witness the greatness. Another of my favourite ever Glastonbury performances making this one of the best festivals I’ve been to. As always we missed loads of great bands (including Pulp’s secret set on the Park) but we had a blast. Oh, and it was the first time we took my brother to Glastonbury. He loved it…!
